Crews broke ground in late January on the Acworth Community Center. The anticipated completion date is spring 2019.
The 46,000-square-foot facility will be located at the corner of Logan Road and Cherokee Street in the historic downtown area.
The center will include:
• Banquet space for 350, including a pre-function area and catering kitchen
• Two full basketball courts with a retractable divider
• Raised Indoor walking track
• Two multi-purpose rooms
• Group exercise space
• Recreation offices
• Parking to support the facility
The cost is $11.5 million. Money to build the community center will come from the 2016 Special Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST), Cobb County and City of Acworth.
The project is one of several underway in the city.
Works continues on the Downtown Redevelopment project, which includes construction of a new parking lot, a public park with a replica train depot/history center, and a pedestrian bridge over the railroad tracks that run parallel to Main Street.
In December, the city opened a new arts center – Art at the Park House. The center, which is located at 4425 Cherokee St., is home to a recently approved nonprofit, the Acworth Arts Alliance. The center hosts exhibits and offers classes taught by local artists for children and adults.
